Jackie Barwise - Full Edited.jpg

Jackie (preferred name) trained as a registered mental health nurse (RMN) and worked in the NHS in adult psychiatry initially before joining the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) within the NHS (Cambridgeshire) in 2008 where she specialised in neurodevelopmental conditions (ADHD and Autism). Jackie is a strong believer in life-long learning and completed a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Health, Welfare & Social Policy (achieving Honours) at Anglia Polytechnic University (Cambridge) in 2001 and then completed her Masters degree (with Merit) in Gender, Culture & Politics at Birkbeck College, University of London in 2003.

Whilst working as a Specialist CAMHS Nurse within the NHS in Cambridge, Jackie completed the highly demanding Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP) course in 2010. NMPs such as Jackie, are legally permitted to prescribe medications within their area of expertise, Jackie’s area of expertise being in neurodevelopmental conditions (ADHD and Autism) and working with children/young people's parents/carers. Jackie is highly experienced in liaising with school and college staff (including Special Educational Needs & Disability Coordinators – SENDCOs) to arrange extra educational support for young people.

Jackie deeply appreciates that young people with ADHD and/or Autism can become particularly frustrated and feel overwhelmed at times, which can raise additional complexities for caregivers in providing support to them. Therefore, Jackie particularly focuses on ensuring that caregivers are well equipped and supported themselves, to ensure an understanding and supportive environment is created for the young person where there are no “silly questions”.

Jackie is passionate about working with children/young adults and their families in shared decision making about their care, as people with neurodevelopmental conditions (ADHD and Autism) have so much potential to have incredibly fulfilling lives.

Jacqueline (Jackie) is registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and holds the Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP) qualification.
