Dr Asha Mashru is a child & adolescent psychiatrist with an original training focus on learning disabilities. She enjoys working with children, adolescents and their families both here at The Giaroli Centre and within an NHS CAMHS service. Dr Mashru is highly experienced in working with children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Tourette’s and other neurodevelopmental and mental health conditions.

She trained in a variety of medical specialities before starting her training as a Consultant Psychiatrist in Learning Disabilities, and has experience of working in the forensic psychiatry sector. Dr Mashru is also trained in psychotherapy and can offer a psychotherapeutic approach to her clients.

Dr Mashru qualified from the University of Sheffield (UK) and has a bachelor’s degree in mental health research, and a master’s in mental health studies. She has won prizes from the Royal College of Psychiatrists and Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. She has published research and presented at national and international conferences, as well as having trained other doctors and significant experience teaching medical students.

Alongside her work here at The Giaroli Centre, Dr Mashru works within the NHS as a Consultant Psychiatrist managing clients with highly acute and chronic complex presentations. She has a passion for education and works in medical education at the University of Central Lancashire (UK) and is an educator for the OxfordPsych course, assisting other psychiatrists with their education.

Prior to her career in psychiatry, Dr Mashru enjoyed a varied career in recruitment and classical dance. Outside of her psychiatry work, Dr Mashru is a mother to a toddler who loves the Paw Patrol, PJ masks and Spidey and His Amazing Friends.

Dr Mashru collaborates in a multi-disciplinary setting to deliver either the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (2nd edition) (ADOS-2) or the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R) for detailed diagnoses of Autism where required.

Dr Mashru’s General Medical Council (GMC) registration number is 6144484 and she is registered on the GMC specialist register for Psychiatry of Learning Disability. She is also a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych) and is Section 12 (2) Approved under the Mental Health Act.
